Amazon Brand Registry Application

An Amazon Brand Registry Application is a formal process through which brand owners can enroll in the Amazon Brand Registry Program. This is a program that Amazon has created to give its sellers more control over their brands and intellectual properties (IPs).

How does the Amazon Brand Registry help Amazon sellers?

Amazon’s Brand Registry provides a variety of important advantages to brands operating on the platform. Key benefits include the following:

  • Trademark enforcement: The Amazon Brand Registry is accessible to sellers who can verify that they possess a registered trademark matching their brand name or logo. By enrolling in the program, brand owners gain enhanced control over their listings to ensure their brand identity is never misrepresented.
  • Intellectual property protection: Brands that enroll in the Amazon Brand Registry gain access to monitoring and reporting tools to protect against IP violations. Should a brand owner discover another seller counterfeiting their products or otherwise violating their trademark or copyright, they can report it to Amazon’s review teams, who have the power to remove listings and suspend or ban infringing seller accounts.
  • Enhanced branding and marketing control: Sellers that enroll in the Amazon Brand Registry get access to additional tools such as Amazon’s A+ content and Sponsored Brands ads. These tools allow them to create more detailed listings and advertise in more prominent locations on the platform to boost their brand presence.

What does it cost to enroll in the Amazon Brand Registry?

The Amazon Brand Registry itself is free for brands to enroll in, however, there are some associated costs due to its eligibility requirements. Since Amazon mandates that sellers must possess a trademark to join, brand owners need to pay fees to register their trademark before they can use the program. In the USA, brands register trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where the base application filing fee is $350. Depending on the jurisdiction in which a brand owner wishes to register their trademark, this cost may vary.

What is the process for completing an Amazon Brand Registry application?

Once a brand owner has acquired a registered trademark, the process of completing the Amazon Brand Registry application is reasonably straightforward. Sellers can do so by logging into the Amazon Brand Registry portal and submitting their information, including their brand name, trademark number, and supporting documents. If any issues arise during verification, sellers may need to submit an Amazon suspension appeal or additional documentation to clarify their application status.

Once the trademark has been verified, the application is approved and the seller gains access to the program. Depending on the specifics of the particular application and whether additional proof is required, time frames may vary to some extent, however, applications are typically processed in approximately ten business days.
