Amazon Seller Account Reinstatement

An Amazon seller account reinstatement is the process through which an Amazon seller has their selling privileges restored following a suspension. Seller accounts are suspended by Amazon in response to perceived breaches of its standards and policies as a means of maintaining the integrity, security, and trustworthiness of its marketplace. Securing the reinstatement of an account is the responsibility of the seller, who must follow Amazon’s appeal process to do so.

When might an Amazon seller account require reinstatement?

Amazon seller accounts require reinstatement when they have been suspended by the platform, however, there are a variety of reasons why Amazon may take this action. The following are some common reasons why an Amazon seller may need to appeal for the reinstatement of their account:

  • Policy violations: Amazon’s specialists may deem that the seller has violated their policies, such as by infringing on another seller’s intellectual property, selling prohibited products, posting inaccurate product descriptions, and engaging in unfair business practices. This will result in a suspension, requiring the seller to seek reinstatement.
  • Performance standards: Amazon tracks seller performance and holds its sellers to high standards with regard to key performance metrics such as order defect rate, cancellation rate, and later shipment rate, among others. If a seller fails to meet Amazon’s standards on these metrics, their account will be suspended and they will need to have it reinstated.
  • Customer complaints: Sellers who received consistent volumes of customer complaints may have their accounts suspended, thus requiring reinstatement.

How does an Amazon seller have their account reinstated?

Having an Amazon account reinstated requires a seller to file an appeal via Amazon’s formal appeal process. In this appeal, the seller must address the cause of the suspension and demonstrate a commitment to compliance with Amazon’s standards and policies.
Regardless of whether the suspension is the result of a violation, the seller must provide a detailed Plan of Action (POA) to submit as part of their appeal. In this document, the seller must acknowledge the root cause of the suspension, explain what corrective steps they have taken to resolve it and prevent recurring suspensions, and outline a structured, solution-based plan for how they intend to maintain compliance going forward.
In instances where the seller’s case is complex, such as those involving claims of fraud or disputes regarding IP violations like trademark or copyright infringement, the seller may be well advised to seek expert legal counsel through the appeal process, as this may provide the best chances of reinstatement.
